
One of the favourite parts of the garden has always been the Azalea beds. This quite small area was greatly enlarged in 2005 with new plantings of azaleaodendrons, cornus and witch hazels. The old gravel path which runs through the centre is lined with hostas and hellebores.

Foxgloves have been encouraged as underplanting and Verbena bonariensis is a new and welcome addition.
This area has something to offer at all times of the year and May to August is the best time.
Two big holm oak trees cast a dry shade at one end and whatever is planted beneath them struggles - sasa bamboo, pachysandra, mahonia aquifolium and skimmia are all having a tough time.
